day 3 and day 4 | Hives continued

So what we found out yesterday is that is most likely was the amoxicillin. I don't think there has ever been an argument about that. However, his condition was as severe as it was because the urgent care seen on day one prescribed cedinir which is a very similar drug to amoxicillin. I guess Asher is in the 10% of those allergic to amoxicillin who would also be allergic to cedinir. I hate that the length of this torment could have been prevented. Once the second drug was in his system things really got bad. That also explains why the benadryl and prednsilone (that is an off-brand of the streoid orapred not a mis-spelling of prednisone) at home were not enough. The reaction he had is called erythema multiforme.

So after finding no parking in the Emergency parking, walking with all three boys from the parking garage and taking flights of stairs, we made it, and got the help he needed. After three intense tries to get a needle in his swollen arms, unable to find a vein, the nurses and doctors re-evaluated the situation and decided to give him a shot.

{do you notice the swelling under his eye? this is 5 hours post steroid.  so try to imagine this 10 x worse. in this picture he is much, much better. his swelling was so bad his clothes were tight, he was harder to hold(like lifting him his arms were so big around) he wasn't able to use his hands or feet. even his belly was distended.}

He was so much happier by the time we got home and though slow and itchy he was being as sweet as pie. I love my boy, Even though he had been through so much he had a big smile on his face after his bath. Then he grabbed Greg's hand and walked to his crib so he could be lifted in.

I am so happy my Asher is getting back to his old self.
