Wow, how different things are from one year to the next! Last year Greg was gone over spring break and Asher had that crazy allergic reaction over Easter and spring break which kind of set the tone for all we did, or didn’t do. This year Greg took leave and we left town. What I am realizing… We are there, We officially have a school-age child who knows all about spring breaks, weekends, late nights. Spring break- you go on vacation, weekends- mean staying up later, Late nights- are a by-product of what the weekends are supposed to be. Now, now, I am the parent so don’t go thinking just because the kids at school say its so, mean it’s so for our house, we are learning that around here every day. A. Just because your fellow students get a 10.00 allowance a week doesn’t mean you do B. Just because your fellow students don’t do their nighty reading doesn’t mean you don’t. *sigh* Not a fun lesson, but necessary. We talk daily about honesty, integrity, and doing to right thing even when no one is looking…When mom isn’t there. Daily, I wonder if the talks fall on deaf ear. Then I pray.
Okay I trailed way off. Spring break, we went to the Florida Keys.
Asher was ready to go with his sunglasses and fruit snacks.
We took our time and stopped in Miami for the night. Is there any greater joy for a kid than staying in a hotel?
A hotel with a heated pool and hot tub no less.
We stopped off at an airport because you don’t go anywhere with this family without doing so. Greg’s brother is an aircraft mechanic and gave the boys a tour. Which of course, they loved. I loved seeing them as I counted down the minutes until we got to the beach.
We made it, and it was glorious. Until our group of eleven got separated in the woods. Oops.
Day three we went fishing Asher and I caught some bay fish and then this Bonnet head shark. It was pretty fun, I have to admit. We also did some kayaking which was also a good time.
Every day Big Pine Key deer visit right at the front door.
Day four we (four of us came down with some awful tummy bug/ food poisoning) So we came home early. Regardless, this trip is a trip I think we will remember for life.
